BUTTERFLY NEBULA
3700 light-years
The Butterfly Nebula gets its name from its two-winged appearance. The bright star at the top of the image is Sadr, in the constellation Cygnus (the swan). Hydrogen (green), oxygen (blue) and sulphur (red) depict a colourful and chaotic area of extended nebulosity.
