TRIANGULUM GALAXY3 million light-years The Triangulum Galaxy is the third largest member of the so-called local group of galaxies near the Milky Way. Some experienced observers claim to be able to see it in exceptionally clear and dark skies, which would make it the most distant object visible with the unaided eye. It is much easier to spot with a small telescope or binoculars. The Triangulum Galaxy is a classic spiral, and its arms are dotted with glowing red hydrogen gas of star-forming regions.
